How to choose a school: a parent's checklist

Simple questions that help you compare schools fairly before you apply.

1. Compare fees for the same grade

Fees often differ by grade. Compare what each school charges for your child's grade, not another class. Ask which charges are compulsory and which are optional, such as transport, meals or activities, and whether fees are per term or per year.

2. Day or boarding

For day schools, think about the daily journey and travel cost. For boarding, ask about visiting days, extra boarding charges and what your child must bring.

3. Distance and transport

Check whether the school's transport actually covers your area, how early pick-up is and what it costs.

4. Questions to ask before admission

  • Which grades and curriculum do you offer?
  • What is the full fee for my child's grade, including all compulsory charges?
  • When does admission open, and what documents do you need?
  • Can we visit the school before applying?
  • What activities and facilities are available?

5. Check the information

School details on FindSchoolKenya are provided by the schools themselves. A "Verified" label means our team has reviewed the listing; it is not a government accreditation. Always confirm important details directly with the school.
